Cuvée 2019
Domaine Serre Besson, Vinsobres, 2019
A blend of 60% Grenache Noir, 36% Syrah, 2% Cinsault et 2% Mourvrèdre.
tasting notes
The 2019 opens on delicate notes of toast, aromatic herbs, ripe strawberries and a touch of vanilla from the new oak. The finish, combining a stimulating freshness to a nice ripeness, is slightly accented by the spicy tanins of the barrel staves. A sunny Vinsobres to cellar for a perfect harmony.

the domaine

We acquired an old stone house surrounded by vineyards in 2011 and began renovations, replanting, revitalizing and re-trellising old vines. Conversion to be certified organic and construction of the winery began in January 2016.
After construction of the winery, we demolished an existing outbuilding and excavated into the hillside maximizing space for subterranean storage and giving us the capability to gravity feed our fermentation tanks.
The Domaine, facing the Mont Ventoux, is situated between two ravines with numerous natural springs well protected by forest to the North. The majority of the Syrah is planted high on the hillside abutting the forest with other parcels of Grenache, Syrah, Viognier, Cinsault, Mourvèdre and Carignan lower on the slope.

We limit production by dropping grapes and defoliate around grapes clusters for deeper color and greater concentration. The grapes are harvested by hand, transferred into small 20 kilo bins, sorted by hand, destemmed and dropped into gravity fed cement fermentation tanks. Parcels and varietals are fermented separately for optimal blending.

vinsobres
Vinsobres became an AOC Premier Cru Côtes-du-Rhône in 2006. Situated in the Drôme, Vinsobres consists of 24 Domaines and 3 Wine Cooperatives. The plains and hillsides of Vinsobres are mainly planted in vines, olives, truffles and lavender. Serre Besson’s terroir consists of a mixture of clay, limestone, sand and river rock high in calcium deposits.
Having one of the highest elevations of the AOCs in the region, Vinsobres benefits from the Mistral winds that cool and aerate the vines reducing disease and concentrating sugars, flavors and aromas.
We are proud to be well above the
average number of vignerons working
organically and biodynamically.

the
winemakers
We are two artisan winemakers, an American sommelier-wine director and a Frenchman who both share the same objective to make authentic, harmonious wines respectful of the terroir. Poor Devil Wines, the name of the company we created before we came to a decision on a label design, can only be explained over a glass of Serre Besson.
